Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program

Why the “Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program”?

Excess body weight is a causative factor in musculoskeletal health problems. If your joints are forced to support more weight than they are designed to hold, they wear out faster and the muscles become strained.

Abdominal obesity is often a precursor to high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, and too much of bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood. When I review a new patient’s health history I have often observed that if they are on medication for two of the following:  high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes or cholesterol, they are usually significantly overweight. The fact that these conditions go hand in hand is so prevalent, the medical community has an official term for it: “Metabolic Syndrome” or “Syndrome X”.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-third of adults in the United States (35%) are obese. By 2011, West Virginia was ranked 3rd most obese state in the United Sates.  When you combine the rates for people in the “overweight category” with those who are actually “obese”, approximately 68 percent of our population has an increased risk of life-threatening health conditions.

After examining and diagnosing a patient, I explain treatment options and discuss what needs to be done to prevent the condition from recurring. In recent years excess weight has become more of a problem for patients. I used to advise patients to eat smaller portions, cut out junk food, and exercise more. To my knowledge, only one patient has lost weight as a result of that advice.

When I recommend strengthening muscles that have been injured, we teach the patient exercises. When I tell patients to evaluate the ergonomics of their workplaces, we show them good ergonomic options. When we tell patients to use good body mechanics, we show and teach them how to achieve it. When we tell patients to use good posture, we teach them exercises to strengthen those muscles.

Now I feel it is time to teach patients how to lose weight when it is recommended as part of their treatment plan. I have been researching weight loss programs for more than a year. I wanted a program that met the following criteria:

  1. Healthy and safe
  2. Lose weight fast
  3. Lose fat, not muscle
  4. Not being hungry while on the diet
  5. Research to support the efficacy of the program
  6. Educational component as to how the diet works and  how to keep the weight off when the diet phases out
  7. Beginning and ending to the diet
  8. Track record of people keeping the weight off

After extensive research of several different weight loss programs, Ideal Protein was the one that met all of the above criteria. It has been amazing to watch people lose weight and inches on this program. Simultaneously, as patients have lost weight, their blood pressures have gone down, their sugar levels are lower and their cholesterol panels are better. They are looking better AND feeling better!
